As you land at New Chitose Airport, your first destination will be Sapporo. So, hop on the train, which will take you to JR Sapporo Station.

If you arrive in Sapporo in the morning, you will have plenty of time to roam around the city. For you I recommend reading this itinerary.

Many tourists visit Asahidake Ropeway in summer to enjoy the views of volcanic landscape and lush greenery. An hour’s drive from your hotel will take you to Asahidake Ropeway.

The most popular and easiest way to explore Daisetsuzan National Park is to take the Asahidake Ropeway. The ropeway takes you to the upper ropeway station, from where you can ascend Mount Asahidake through a designated hiking trail. This is Hokkaido’s highest peak (2,291 meters).

The day you visit Asahidake Ropeway, make sure to wear a good pair of hiking shoes. For those who will not ascend the mountain, they can hike along the Sugatami Pond Trail. With boardwalks winding through a volcanic landscape dotted with steaming vents and wildflowers, this trail helps you witness the nature of Daizetsuzan National Park.
